The Greene County School Board met in special session Wednesday.

The Board approved two hirings, including a new activities director with David Wright, who will take over for Todd Gordon who is resigning at the end of the current school year. The Board also approved changes to board policy 208.11 and 208.11A. Policy 208.11 changed the format from public comment during a board meeting to open forum, with a limit of three minutes per person to speak and a total of 15 minutes for public participation.

Other changes in the policy included if someone has a general concern and they want it brought before the board, that individual can ask a board member to be on the agenda, and the board president can determine if that should happen. The individual can be guaranteed to be on the school board agenda if they can submit a petition with signatures of at least ten-percent of the previous school election or 500 signatures, whichever is the smaller number.

The Board then went into closed session to discuss a grievance/concern by a citizen regarding a teacher.

Following the closed session, the Board then made its appointments to the reconsideration committee for instructional materials. The Board is allowed to appoint three community members to the eight member committee. The Board appointed Matt Wetrich, Tracy Deal and Jan Scharingson. These members will remain on the committee until the November organizational meeting.
