The Greene County Medical Center recently recognized staff that are considered non-nursing or non-clinical employees.
There were six nominees for the Partner of Nursing Award, which started at the medical center in 2020. The award is given to someone that is a partner of the nurses and supporting the jobs they do. This year’s recipient is Amy Sessions who is a respiratory therapist. Sessions first started with the medical center in 1978 before moving to Alabama in 2007 and then returning back to the medical center in April of 2021. She described her reaction to receiving the award and working with the nursing staff.
“Well, I’m quite humbly honored. They are a great team (the nurses) to work with. We have a very strong and knowledgeable nursing team. That makes it a lot easier to work with.”
Director of Nursing Jess Steinberg is happy to continue this kind of an award that celebrates those that support nurses.
“When you think about healthcare and the hospital, all you think about is nursing and providers. You don’t think about our CNAs (Certified Nursing Assistants), you don’t think about respiratory therapy, or even physical therapy, EVS (environmental services), dietitian, they all play a huge role to make this a healthcare team.”
This award is given annually, where nurses nominate the individuals and the winner is voted on by the nursing staff. A ceremony took place Wednesday morning at the medical center in Jefferson.
