The recent inaugural 2022 Iowa Legislative Softball Game raised a considerable amount of money for two local charities.

Iowa House Representative for District 19 Carter Nordman says the legislative softball game was able to raise more than $26,000 to support both the Puppy Jake Foundation and the Iowa Food Bank Association. The game pitted democrats from the Iowa House and Senate against the republicans.

“The main focus was to raise some money for charity but it also had the benefit of ensuring that we are continuing to build the relationships not only within our own party but across the aisle. There are a lot of friendships across the aisle and this game brought those out and continued to strengthen them so it was a great event.”

Nordman tells Raccoon Valley Radio that while it was the first time this was held the success of the event has people excited about bringing it back in the future.

“I think a lot of people are excited to continue to do it. We raised a good amount of money for two great charities, I think we can raise even more next year. The feedback that we got was that people wanted to continue this, that they had a lot of fun and that it was a great event.”

The republicans were able to top the democrats at Principal Park by a score of 27-16.
