The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.

Greene County Environmental Administrator Chuck Wenthold reported that NationalGrid Renewables filed a permit with the Iowa Utilities Board for a solar panel project near Grand Junction. A public hearing will be announced by the IUB that will most likely be held in Grand Junction. A county ordinance about solar power projects is currently being developed.

Greene County Engineer Wade Weiss told the Board that with the increased gas prices, he may have to reduce some of the days that secondary roads spend on road maintenance with maintainers. He said maintainers can operate up to $2,000 per day on fuel, which isn’t sustainable and may have to draw from other fund accounts in the interim.

The Board then approved a Paton Pit Stop cigarette/tobacco/nicotine/vapor permit as presented, along with a resolution for revisions to the county open records policy. County Attorney Thomas Laehn recommended changes to the county’s policy on open records to reflect some of the language that the Iowa Legislature used in its new state law that takes effect July 1st. However, none of the changes impact the current policy overall, as the county’s policy allows for up to one free hour of a county employee’s time to retrieve the requested record before the requester is charged, which is a higher threshold than the state’s law of the first 30 minutes are free.

Finally, the Board approved another resolution for amendments to be made to the 28E agreement with Central Iowa Community Services mental health region. The two main areas of concern for Laehn were addressing how new counties can be added to the region, along with its amendment process. The Board approved the resolution to direct its designee Dawn Rudolph to bring the issues to the governing board for CICS.
