Tuesday, May 17th

2:49am: Jason Sherlock reported his 2004 Chevrolet Silverado had been stolen from 1200 South Mulberry Street, within the past few minutes. Sherlock reported there were several firearms in the vehicle. Officers entered the vehicle into the NCIC System as stolen, and began searching for the vehicle and suspected the same individual involved in the discharge of the firearm at a passing vehicle on North Cedar Street at 2009 hours on 05/16/2022 was responsible for taking the vehicle.

3:13am: The officer located the stolen vehicle in the above entry in the 100 Block of North Chestnut Street. The officer attempted to perform a Traffic Stop on the vehicle, which sped off. The officer began to pursue the fleeing vehicle through city streets. The vehicle traveled south out of the city limits on South Grimmell Road, and the chase continued on gravel roads south of town. The officer lost sight of the vehicle in southern Greene County. A deputy was assisting in the pursuit of the vehicle.

3:14am: A caller reported a known male had gone to her residence in the 500 Block of South Chestnut Street, and pointed a handgun at her boyfriend. This had occurred as the officer began pursuing the stolen vehicle. After losing the vehicle in the chase, the officer went to the residence and took the report. The subjects provided the officer with video of the event. The same male involved in the other shooting and the stolen vehicle was in the video committing the crime. The officer began searching for the male suspect again.

6:31am: The officer noticed the reported stolen vehicle was now back at 1200 South Mulberry Street. Officers, deputies, and an Iowa State Trooper surrounded the property. The suspect’s cell phone was still pinging at the address. A team of Officers and deputies approached the stolen vehicle, clearing other buildings along the way. The team entered the garage and located the suspect inside. At about 0659 hrs, the suspect was taken into custody. The four loaded firearms were located in the vehicle, which was returned. Zachary A Waters-Rice, 25 of Jefferson, has been charged with, “Attempted Murder-B Felony, Going Armed with Intent-D Felony, Use of a Dangerous Weapon in the Commission of a Crime- Aggravated, Dominion Control of Firearm by Domestic Abuser-D Felony, Burglary 3rd Degree – D Felony, Operation without Owner’s Consent- Aggravated, assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon-Aggravated, Eluding – Aggravated, Manner of Conveyance/Loaded Gun-Simple, Possession of Controlled Substance/Marijuana 1st Offense-Serious, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia- Simple.” Waters-Rice was also issued Traffic Citations for, “Driving While Suspended, (6) Counts of Fail to Obey Stop Sign, Excessive Speed, Reckless Driving, and Unsafe Passing.”

8:23am: An officer removed debris from the roadway on 220 th Street, near Grimmell Road.

10:31am: The GCMC ER reported a Cat Bite Victim at 1000 West Lincoln Way Street. The officer learned that two cats owned by the subject were involved in a fight with each other. The subject attempted to split the two cats up, and was bitten on the arm. The officer verified that both animals have current rabies vaccinations. Animal Ordinances do not apply in this situation.

1:34pm: A Traffic Stop near South and Oak Streets resulting in Mariah Block of Jefferson being cited for, “Operation without Registration.”

9:24pm: A Traffic Stop in the 600 Block of North Elm Street resulted in Marie Webb of Early being cited for, “Excessive Speed.”
