A member of the U.S. House of Representatives recently made a trip to a local business in Greene County and is wanting to help ease some of their issues.

Iowa’s Fourth Congressional Representative Randy Feenstra says one of the biggest problems that Power Lift of Jefferson is facing is the supply chain disruptions, caused by the pandemic.

“Really it comes down to this, making a lot of this product back in the U.S. So much of it has been imported over the years and now we’ve got to figure out a way to be competitive and make it here. And then also the supply chain when it comes to whether that be trucking, whether that be getting the product shipped, they (Power Lift) export a lot of product also. Again, we have to figure out a way to be more efficient and more effective through our ports, and through our rail and through our trucking and transportation.”

Feenstra points out another issue for not only Power Lift but lots of other employers and families is the cost of healthcare.

“So we’ve got to start controlling pharmaceutical costs, we’ve got to start controlling the cost of premiums for insurance. We can do this but we have to work collectively with the different (entities) from the insurance companies, to the hospital, to the clinic, all the different components, we have to work together and figure this out.”

Feenstra states they are working on a bill for next year that will lower premiums costs for all involved, but he believes it needs to be a capitalistic approach so that the federal government isn’t running healthcare.
