With planting season comes a lot more large equipment out on the roads and it’s important for motorists and farmers to be safe.
With planting season underway Dallas County Extension Field Agronomist Meaghan Anderson says people may see more equipment out on the roads such as tractors pulling planters and sprayers. Anderson offers some safety reminders for this time of the year.
“For the farmers it’s important, especially now that we are kicking up a lot of dust with the wind going on out there, making sure that our reflectors are visible and cleaned off as well as all of our lights so that everybody can see us. For everyone else on the road it’s just important to remember that everybody needs to get home to their families and get their work done”
Anderson tells Raccoon Valley Radio people should remember that these are slow moving vehicles and they typically have poor visibility so she reminds people to slow down, give them plenty of space and pay attention.
“Watch for signals from those operators that might give you an idea as to what their intentions are, especially if they intend to turn in front of you.”
Anderson says large farm equipment will mostly stick to gravel roads but if they are on the highway motorists should remember to have patience.
