Thursday night’s home opening varsity baseball game resulted in Greene County winning 8-7 in nine innings over Carroll High at Allensworth Field in Jefferson. Coach Matt Paulsen called the victory “An incredibly gutsy win by our team. All of the guys in the lineup and in the dugout stepped up and played their role in helping us get the win. I am beyond proud of this team and can’t wait to see what the rest of the season will bring.”
Justin Stream had the ninth inning game-winning hit, a single that scored that scored Dakota Mobley from second base. Stream had a double and two singles and two runs batted in, while Joe Carey singled twice and he also drove in two runs. Max Riley singled twice, with Kole Teeples getting a base hit and two RBI. Blake Hamann drove in a run with a bases loaded walk.

Carroll trailed much of the night, but scored two runs each in the sixth and seventh innings to send the game into extras. The Rams had two second inning runs, then put four on the board in the fourth. Greene County had single runs in the sixth and ninth frames.
The Rams are 1-1 to start the season against a pair of Class 3A programs in Denison-Schleswig and Carroll. Greene County drops a class to 2A this year for the postseason.
