
It was 2A state semifinal on Thursday afternoon for girls soccer, and the top seed Dallas Center – Grimes Mustangs were able to defeat the Cedar Rapids – Xavier Saints 3-1. DCG improves to 21-0 on the season, while Xavier ends their good year at 13-4.
Dallas Center – Grimes girls soccer was looking for a spark entering the second half in the state semifinals, and they were able to find it, getting a pair of goals from junior Caroline White. White was able to lob home a tough shot with 32:02 left in the second to give the Mustangs their first lead of the day, then was able to finish home a goal a few minutes later from a beautiful cross to make it 3-1, a lead that DCG wouldn’t give up.
In the first half, Xavier strikes first, as Mary Kate Moeder was able to hit a goal four minutes into the game to make it 1-0, but DCG was able to control possession throughout the half, and eventually equalize the score at 19:16 off of a strike from sophomore Kylie Knief, taking it 1-1 to halftime.
DCG was able to really control the game through possessions, and were able to get more opportunities at net as well.
DCG soccer will be playing in the state finals on Saturday afternoon when they get a rematch from 2021 against Waverly – Shell Rock. The two teams met earlier this year, with DCG winning 1-0, the loss the only of the season for W-SR.
