After six straight road games to open the 2022 Greene County High School softball season, Coach Tom Kennedy’s Rams were at home on Thursday night hosting Roland-Story (Story City) in a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference make-up contest. The Norsemen won the game 5-2 and stands at 3-3 on the season and 3-1 in the conference while the Rams are 1-6 and 0-4. The action was broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
The Rams were up 1-0 after one inning on an Emma Hoyle run batted in on a fielder’s choice ground out. Olivia Shannon and Alexa Peters started the rally as the two left-handed slap hitters each had infield hits. The Rams scored in the sixth on a Paige Teeples RBI single. In between, the Norsemen had two runs in the third, two in the fourth, and one in the sixth.
Winning pitcher Madison Geise and losing pitcher Hoyle each had 11 strikeouts, but Geise walked only one and hit no one, while Hoyle walked six and hit the same R-S batter with pitches three times. Peters had three hits and Teeples added two for the Rams, who totaled nine hits, all singles. Greene County was not charged with an error, and defense has been an area of concern for head coach Tom Kennedy’s team.
Greene County is at home again tonight hosting West Marshall on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com around 7:30 p.m. Ram baseball is also at home vs. the Trojans at Allensworth Field in Jefferson.
