After the legislative session ended, House District 20 Representative Ray Sorensen wants to keep his focus on information technology legislation.

Sorensen says that expanding broadband and working on security for Iowa’s networks continues to be an issue he is pushing for. He explains that he was disappointed when the Cyber Simulation Bill did not pass the Senate which would create a cyber security training center at the Iowa State University to conduct and sponsor research to counter and mitigate cyber threats.

2021 set records for data breaches. By the end of September 2021, the number of breaches had exceeded the number of breaches of 2020. So it just keeps getting worse year by year. Industries that are targeted are manufacturing, utilities, health care, financial services and government.”

He states that cyber security is an area where the state is behind on.
