For the first time in half a decade, one Greene County town is bringing back a town celebration.
Churdan Day is this Saturday and there’s a full day of fun and entertainment. The morning festivities begin with the 5K fun run/walk at 7:30am, with runners to meet at the park shelter and adults are $10 and those 12 and under can enter for free. Then the 3-on-3 basketball tournament, as well as the vendor fair starts at 9am. The parade is at 10am and those wanting to be in the parade are to line up at the school building parking lot.
There will also be the vehicle show and inflatables start at 11, followed by a performance by the Town and Country Band and a sand volleyball tournament at noon, all at the city park. Kids games will also take place in the park from 2-4pm and the Churdan Library will host its quilt show and bingo at the library from 1-4pm. A beard contest will be held at 4pm at the shelterhouse and there will be Barrel Smoke Concessions also starting at 4.
Finally, the Churdan Fire Department will host a beer garden with live musical entertainment from Jesse Wilson from 8-11pm, followed by fireworks to wrap up the event at dusk.
Co-organizer Libby Towers invites everyone to join them for Churdan Day.
“We’re excited to bring Churdan Day back. We haven’t had it for five years. We really hope we can bring a lot of alumni from the Paton-Churdan (School District), if you lived in Churdan or called Churdan home once, we hope you all come back and just kind of see what we have going on. Of course, if you live in Churdan or near Churdan, you’ll come and join us.”
Towers adds those interested in competing in the basketball or sand volleyball tournaments should register by tomorrow’s deadline. However, they will leave registrations open the day of and will cut them off within 20 minutes of the tournaments starting on Saturday.
