
The Stuart Police Department escorted a suicidal man off a bridge Sunday night.
According to the Stuart Police Department, officers responded at 11:47pm to a hotel in the 200 Block of Southeast 7th Street with a report of a suicidal guest. During the investigation, the man had left the hotel prior to the officers showing up.
At 1:12am on Monday the officers responded to the South Division overpass of Interstate-80 at mile marker 93. The man who was deaf was standing on the ledge of the bridge with a rope tied to his neck and bridge.
According to the report, officers worked quickly to shut off traffic for approximately 20 minutes to the Interstate and bridge. The officers were able to communicate with the man to get off the ledge and he was uninjured. The man was transported by the Stuart Police Department to Des Moines for psychiatric care.
The Adair and Guthrie County Sheriff’s Department and Stuart Rescue all assisted at the scene.
