The high temperatures along with the humidity will tip the scales today for most of Iowa.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Lucas Krull says temperatures today will be in the mid to upper 90s with dew point values in the lower 70s which will add to the heat.
“As a result, the heat index or temperature values are going to be in the triple digits across most of the state of Iowa.”
Krull says that people should take precautions if they need to be outside for long periods of time.
“Make sure to stay hydrated and have a place to cool down. If you begin to feel sick when you’re outside, check in on any loved ones. And especially our vulnerable populations are vulnerable populations, which would include the elderly. Those that may have any respiratory illnesses and young children.”
He adds there is a chance of severe weather that includes strong winds and hail to Northwest and Southeast Iowa tonight.
