
The West Central Valley softball team had a hard fought game Friday night, and were able to get a close win against the Kuemper Catholic Knights. The Knights struck first, getting a run in the top of the second, before the Wildcats tied it up. The Wildcats nabbed another run in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 2-1 lead.
The Knights had 3 quick outs in the top of the 4th inning, while the Wildcats racked up another 2 runs to take a 4-1 lead. Then in the 5th, the Knights squeaked closer with 1 run, before the Wildcats got another to move up to a 5-2 lead. In the 6th inning, both the Knights and Wildcats scored, bringing the Wildcats lead to 6-3, before the Knights scored 2 quick in the top of the 7th, before a fly out to center fielder Ella Sand ended the game, giving the Wildcats their 28th win of the season, with a score of 6-5.
The Wildcats will play against the Raiders of Mt. Ayr on Monday.
With this win, the Wildcats advance the school records they’re currently working on, with 28 wins in a season, and 27 wins by a pitcher in a season for Marissa Hagen.
