Plans have been revealed for a Dallas County Veteran Memorial Wall to be put up in Freedom Park in Minburn.
Chairman of the Freedom Park Committee Paul Snyder says the committee looked at the area which includes a Freedom Rock and decided they would like to find another way to honor past and present Dallas County veterans and came to the conclusion of creating a memorial wall.
“A lot of other places have walls where people buy a brick for their relatives or family members who served in some branch of the service and they use that as a fundraiser to raise money to maintain the park and other improvements. So, that was the final decision that we came up with that we would sell bricks and put up one, two, three walls, whatever amount of response we get.”
Snyder tells Raccoon Valley Radio a brick can be purchased to put in the wall for $100 and will be engraved with the information provided. Snyder says the process will take a while and the hopes are to have names in by spring of next year to start thinking about building the wall(s) and Snyder says for those who don’t have anyone they know as a veteran, they can still purchase a brick.
“If someone wants to donate the $100 for the brick then we will do the research to some of their criteria and try to find a name and then we will email them back and tell them who they donated their brick for.”
