The 2022 Greene County Fair is currently underway and there are a few things happening tomorrow.

A new event is the StoryWalk about “Billy & Goat Go to the State Fair.” Greene County Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway says when kids complete the StoryWalk that starts at 7am each day of the fair and runs all day, they can go to the Livestock Office and receive a free ice cream cone from A&W Restaurant in Jefferson. Additionally, Hardaway says Story Hour will take place at 3pm each day of the fair in Clover Hall with the Greene County Libraries Association, where kids get a story read to them and do crafts.

Hardaway talks about why they wanted to include Story Hour during this year’s fair.

“I’m very grateful that the community libraries are willing to do this. So in the past, we’ve had ‘Extravaganza!’ and a lot of the libraries would have a small booth in that to do some activities with the kids. And with covid that was something we did away with and I wanted to find a way to get back involved with those libraries, and additionally providing those literacy skills to kids because that’s really important and something that those kids needs a lot of extra help with in the summer.”

Tomorrow afternoon will be the 4-H/FFA poultry show in the show ring and at 3pm is the 4-H/FFA dog show. The evening entertainment will be the fair queen contest at 7pm also in Clover Hall. Hardaway notes that all livestock shows will be livestreamed once again this year.

“We were gracious enough to have Home State Bank sponsor that for us. They provide a QR code for those people that might not be able to make it out to the fair or family that lives far away. You can just scan that QR code with a camera on your phone and it’ll take you directly to that livestream for the fair. If you aren’t able to see your kiddo show or want to watch a relative use that livestream and you’ll be able to watch them.”

Raccoon Valley Radio’s Lil’ Big Red Radio will be broadcasting live from the fair tomorrow through Saturday and 10am-6pm and Sunday from 10am-2pm. You can also check out our Greene County Fair Coverage website for results from the fair, as well as other stories and information.
