Following the damage in the aftermath of Monday’s storm, Jefferson residents still have ways to get rid of some storm debris.
City Administrator Mike Palmer says residents can place any fallen tree branches, sticks and other yard waste from the storm in arm load piles by the curbside, with cut ends facing the street. He points out city crews will pick those items up.
“They may not get there right away, within a day or two, but they’re aware of it. They’re doing a really good job of trying to pick up the debris, and sweep the streets, and along with getting branches that are coming out. And there’s still some limbs that are into the street right now that they are trying to cut back.”
Palmer notes another location residents can take their yard waste is to the city’s dump site at Daubendiek Park, which he says has been utilized a lot since Monday.
“Oh it fills up quickly. It’s a wonderful treasure to have. But when people bring stuff out there, we still remind them there’s signs out there is that we can’t take lumber, we can’t take plastics, it just has to be strictly trees, grass and leaves.”
Palmer adds the city also has a grinder at the yard waste site to mulch all of the storm debris that people have taken down there.
