The Adair County Public Health is now encouraging people to get the booster shot every five months.
Director Stephanie Claussen says anyone five and older should get the booster shot. Claussen says for those people that got the vaccine at the beginning of the pandemic are due for their first booster. She notes that those that got the vaccine need the booster to continue to have protection.
“Because protection wanes after so long. It does help to get that booster to boost your antibody levels and your immune system so that you can keep up to date. And if you were to be exposed to COVID, have those antibodies built up in your system. So I do believe that they have helped quite a bit.”
She explains those people who are ages 50 and up and immunocompromised should be looking at getting a second booster by now. Claussen encourages those to reach out to the Adair County Public Health Office for additional information.
