U.S. Congresswoman Cindy Axne
An Iowa US Representative wants to prevent deceptive advertisements to protect consumers.
US Congresswoman Cindy Axne has introduced legislation to keep drug manufacturers from hiding dangerous side effects of their prescription drugs in their advertisements and help consumers make informed decisions.
She says the “Banning Misleading Drug Ads Act,” will require the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to finalize a 15-year old proposed rule to make drug manufacturers clarify in a statement the side effects, contraindications and effectiveness along with banning distractions in their advertisements.
“Literally they’re telling you all these side effects and you can’t even hear them because they’re distracting you by music or some fun video in the background of people moving and dancing or whatever. And so they list all these negative side effects. Read them off so fast, it’s hard to understand what they are. I mean, I’ve caught some of them before. They’re like, including death. I’m like, nobody wants that as a side effect.”
