Today’s sports calendar has volleyball on it for Greene County and Paton-Churdan, plus cross-country for the shared Greene County/P-C program.
Coach Jeff Lamoureux’s cross-country girls and boys go to Saydel high school on the northeast side of Des Moines today for a coed meet. This will be the second meet this week as the Rams ran Tuesday at the Lake City golf course for the South Central Calhoun Invitational. The Heart of Iowa Activities Conference meet wraps up the regular season on Monday, Oct. 10 at the Lincoln Valley golf course east of State Center.
Greene County goes on the road to Nevada for volleyball tonight. The Rams are 4-1 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference volleyball and 15-7 overall. The Cubs are leading the conference and Chris Heisterkamp’s Rams need to pull the upset if they hope to gain at least a share of the league title.
P-C is on the road at Coon Rapids-Bayard in Coon Rapids in a Rolling Valley Activities Conference match. The Rockets lost a close two of three sets match to CR-B early in the season at the Crusaders’ tournament. The Rockets are seeking to win a match for the first time this season.
An event that is not on the calendar this week is Greene County football. Coach Caden Duncan’s Rams were to have played tomorrow night at Shenandoah, but the Mustangs cancelled their varsity program after a 94-0 loss in week five. The Rams will win by forfeit, which clinches the Class 2A District 8 title for the second straight season. The next Greene County game on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com is on Oct. 14 vs. Clarke (Osceola) in Jefferson at Linduska Field to close out the regular season.
