With Halloween right around the corner, fun times and good treats are on everyone’s mind, but safety can also be a concern on this exciting holiday.
Panora Police Chief Matt Reising reminds motorists to not block streets, as they can become easily congested. Reising notes that walking more can help with this issue, keeping roads clear and making it easier for children to cross the road.
While he wants kids to have fun with their costumes, he also notes that wearing something eye-catching can help others see them easier.
“With it getting dark sooner, it can be hard to see. So if we have glow sticks, lights, things of that nature, maybe bags that are reflective or some sort of reflective clothing.”
Reising tells Raccoon Valley Radio that it’s also safer to remind children to walk instead of run across the road, as some streets aren’t as well lit as others. He says that parents should also check candy before letting their children eat it, to make sure it’s safe.
