It’s day one of high school girls’ basketball practice in Iowa and second year Greene County head coach Tori Ogden is expecting a squad of veteran players mixed in with newcomers. Brianna Habben was the only senior on the team last season when the Rams went 3-19, but she was the leading scorer and rebounder for the Rams, so finding Habben’s scoring and rebounding numbers from returning players or newcomers is something the team will be looking for.
An increase in overall scoring would be helpful as the Rams haven’t had a season where they averaged as many as 40 points in a game in some time. Higher scoring could come if the Rams could reduce turnovers, which would lead to more shot attempts per game. Greene County had several games where the number of turnovers exceeded points scored.
The season officially begins in three weeks on Nov. 28 when Ogden visits Jefferson to take on the Rams in a girl/boy doubleheader heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
