The sports of girls’ basketball, boys’ basketball, and wrestling, for the Greene County High School teams will hold Media Day today. Audio, video, and photography will be on hand talking with coaches and athletes as they prepare to start the 2022-23 seasons.

Zach Beekman is head coach of the wrestling team. No girls went out for the sport, and just 16 boys reported, although the Rams are one of only a few squads in Iowa that return two wrestlers with State Championships to their name. Kale Petersen won titles in Class 1A at West Fork (Sheffield) in 2021 and for Greene County in 2A in 2022. McKinley Robbins won a title in 2021 and was a runner-up in 2020 and ’22. Both are seniors and both are members of Sebolt Wrestling Academy in Jefferson.

Chris Nelson is the coach of the boys. They’ll look to improve on the 9-13 record and fourth place finish of a season ago in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. Returning All-Conference players are seniors Richard Daugherty and Jesse Miller. Daugherty has twice been on the All-Conference second team and Miller was honorable mention in ’22.

Tori Ogden starts her second season heading the girls’ program here. They’ll be looking to improve upon the 3-19 record of a season ago. Seniors Emma Hoyle and Alexa Peters were on the honorable mention HOIAC list following last season.
