In their last meeting, the Guthrie Center School Board approved using the early retirement incentive.

The Guthrie Center School District hasn’t offered this incentive since 2019, but will offer it to qualifying teachers for this year. Teachers and staff can apply for early retirement, and will get a care package.

The school district typically offers $20,000 and the option to stay on the district’s health insurance policy, at the cost of the individual. Guthrie Center School District Superintendent Josh Rasmussen says the early retirement incentive is used by many schools as a budgeting tool. It allows them to offer the early retirement to experienced teachers who have a higher salary, and get ready to look for new teachers that won’t have as high a salary.
