The high school wrestling season for Greene County starts tomorrow night in Jefferson at the high school. It’s a quadrangular with the Rams hosting Van Meter, PCM (Monroe), and Ogden.
Coach Zach Beekman’s Rams are short on numbers, but have some high-end talent. Kale Petersen won the Class 2A State title at 12o lbs. last February for the Rams after capturing the 1A 106 lbs. crown in 2021 for West Fork (Sheffield). Petersen has 69 career wins including going 13-0 last season for the Rams. McKinley Robbins is 116-6 in his varsity Ram career and has been a State Tournament finalist all three years of high school. He won the 120 lbs. title in 2A in 2021 and was the runner-up at 106 in 2020 and at 132 lbs. last February. Petersen and Robbins are both seniors who have committed to wrestle at Division I NCAA programs- Petersen at Iowa and Robbins at Oregon State. Junior Gavin Scheuermann has twice been a State qualifier in his first two years of high school.
Tomorrow’s action is the first of four home meets this season for the Rams, the most in Jefferson in some time.
