Any Greene County or surrounding county residents who need recertification to apply pesticides privately for the next year can take a class in a couple of days.
Greene County ISU Extension is offering the private pesticide applicator training on Tuesday from 1:30-3:30pm at Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds in Jefferson. Extension Director Lori Mannel says the cost for the training is $30 and there is one hard and fast rule that they continue to abide by from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship.
“We ask (that) you come by (at) 1:15(pm). It will start at 1:30(pm) sharp and we’ll close the doors and we’re not able to allow late attendees to show up.”
Additionally, Mannel notes the final commercial pesticide training is happening on Wednesday for Pest Control Operators. The cost is $60 per person and it will be from 9-11:30am at the Extension Office in Jefferson. Mannel points out re-shows for anyone that may have missed a commercial pesticide recertification course can contact the Extension Office about a reshow.
“We are having very few slots available for reshows. So you’ll need to stop in or call and talk to (Office Coordinator) Cyndi (Adamson) and she may be able to get you in. Some of these are offered online so she is suggested some individuals to take those online as well. But if you do need a reshow, the sooner you call in the better chance we’ll be able to get you in or get you to another Extension Office.”
Contact the Extension Office at 515-386-2138 during normal business hours to register for either training or to schedule a reshow for commercial pesticide applicators.
