The 3rd Annual Winter Festival Celebration of Trees was held this past weekend in Jefferson which proved to be a great kick-off to the holiday season.
Co-organizer Philip Heisterkamp gave his overall impression of the event that saw some new changes including hayrack rides and an adult-only Friday evening time that had over 100 attended, along with mainstays of kid crafts, and live musical entertainment.
“An overwhelming success. I’d say attendance and just overall excitement for the event, which you know, it takes a few years to get these things up and going. And it seems like we’ve finally got a whole lot of steam going with this event.”
The major highlight was the 43 differently decorated trees that people voted on. Heisterkamp says first place went to Laney and Sam Pedersen, and Grandma Hesson’s “Heaven and Nature Sing,” featuring handmade clay animals. Second place was Chris Heisterkamp with her “Away in a Manger” that had a complete nativity scene, and third place was Bonnie Silbaugh and Fudge’s Flowers with their “Light as a Feather” tree with a display of color, flair and style.
Raccoon Valley Radio also spoke with Santa Claus, which lots of kids were able to visit with and tell him what they wanted for Christmas. The Jolly Ol’ Elf had this message for kids who might be listening.
“I would say just be good boys and girls and make sure you leave a list (of presents) for your mom and dad, and I’ll make sure to fill it for you.”
This year’s event included two days to give even more people an opportunity to take in some holiday cheer.
