Today is the last day to sign up for a free meal on Christmas Day in Jefferson.

The Jefferson Elks Lodge #2306 is hosting its 57th Christmas Day Dinner this Sunday. Exalted Ruler Bill Berger says the meal will consist of turkey and ham, along with mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, pumpkin pie and a dinner roll. He points out carry-outs are also available, along with deliveries within Jefferson. Berger talks about how this event wouldn’t keep being possible without volunteers.

“It is very inspiring. Sometimes we’ll have as many as 60 volunteers on a Sunday (for the meal) and this particular Sunday of course is Christmas Day. But to give up that much of your day to help somebody else is inspiring.”  

Bingo will follow the meal, which Berger notes everyone who is there for the meal is invited to play and win a variety of donated prizes. On Christmas Day, the doors will open at 3pm and the meal will be served at 4pm. Contact the Elks Lodge at 515-386-2106.
