With the first blizzard-like conditions lasting for a couple of days in Greene, Guthrie and Dallas counties motorists might get stuck on the roadways.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams advises people if they get stranded on the road during a winter storm or a blizzard, to make sure your winter emergency kits include food and bottled water, along with a flashlight, batteries, a cell phone charger and a blanket with extra clothes to stay warm. He recommends making sure your vehicle’s gas tank is as full as possible before you travel on the road.

“As with gas prices, if you try and keep it full it’s less money coming out of your pocket all at once, it’s spread out a little better so it doesn’t hurt as much. And then it also keeps the moisture from collecting on the inside of the tank, which could also cause your fuel lines to freeze.”

Williams says if you get stuck in a ditch or on the side of the road to contact law enforcement but he adds it might be a few hours before someone can come and assist you.
