The National Weather Service is expecting snow to be on the ground on Sunday to “officially” make it a White Christmas.
NWS Meteorologist Roger Vachalek says the daytime temperatures for Christmas Day will be mostly cloudy with a high near 20 degrees, but with the accumulation of snow late this week it will stay until Sunday.
“As you’ve been hearing, you’re likely to see some very significant blowing snow and very cold temperatures here for the next few days. So keep in mind, before we get to Christmas, we’re going to have a winter storm warning in effect and looking at about three to four inches of snow total here, light fluffy snow. So it’s going to blow around quite a bit. But, the temperatures are going to be cold enough that it will not melt. So technically, you should have a White Christmas provided it doesn’t blow too much and kind of leave some bare ground here and there.”
Vachalek explains that temperatures will reach an overnight low of 6 degrees into the night with a small chance of 30 percent of some precipitation from 7pm till midnight on Christmas.
