Greene County youth in kindergarten through third grade is invited to participate in a new program with Greene County ISU Extension.

Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway says the “Books for Cooks” centered around the theme of “Let’s Taco About Spices.” She tells Raccoon Valley Radio kids will read about spice tacos for a dragon, then make their own spice blend for tacos and do a physical activity. Hardaway believes this new program will be a big hit with kids.

“So this is a brand new curriculum launched by Iowa State (University Extension and Outreach). I was so excited when they said they were coming out for this because it seems like any camp I do with food, kids are excited about it. So I know kids will be excited about this camp.”

There will be two classes offered. The first one is on December 30th at the Extension Office in Jefferson and January 3rd at the Churdan Public Library. Both classes will take place from 10am-noon and it is $10 per participant. Contact the Extension Office at 515-386-2138 or stop by to sign up.
