A homeless man was recently arrested for an alleged incident in 2020 in Jefferson.
According to court documents, an investigation began with the Jefferson Police Department on June 11, 2020 when a male allegedly entered a laundromat business in the 300 block of West Reed Street in Jefferson. The business owner told police that video surveillance showed the male entered around 4:30am to do a load of laundry. Then he went to the restroom at the same time a female entered the business. The male was absent for 20 minutes and then reappeared from the restroom carrying two bags. The male left the business and the female left right after him.
During the investigation, an officer found a two-foot wide by 3-4-foot long hole cut out of the drywall from the restroom and that led to the back of a change machine. The owner said the machine was unlocked and no forced entry to it where he had it filled with $1,200 in quarters. The machine also had keys to the 30 deposit boxes for the machines the patrons used. The department put the surveillance photo of the male on its Facebook page and received a tip that it was Curtis Carr. Officers were able to determine that male suspect was Carr and the female accomplice was Elizabeth Ficken.
Carr was recently arrested in Clarinda last week and was booked into the Greene County Jail and charged with two Class D Felonies for second degree theft and third degree burglary, along with an aggravated misdemeanor for third degree criminal mischief. Ficken was previously sentenced in September of 2021 to five years of probation after pleading guilty to a Class D Felony for second degree theft.
