In 2022, the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower in Jefferson had another successful year.

Bell Tower Community Foundation President Carole Custer told the Greene County Board of Supervisors that they had close to 6,000 visitors to the bell tower, which included 48 states, 20 countries and six of seven continents. Custer reported that they were able to record 83 new digital songs that can be played automatically on the bell tower. There were also 14 Tower Tune Live Concerts during the summer and 69 individuals have been approved to perform live music on the keyboard for the bell tower as Mahanay Maestros.

About half of the 6,000 visitors were youth 18 and younger, which didn’t have to pay admission to visit the tower and that was sponsored by the Dean and Lois McAtee Trust. Custer mentioned some future plans included replacing the front entryway door and making it handicapped accessible, along with updating the bell tower’s website.
