It’s the heart of the high school wrestling season for the Greene County Rams. They were in action Jan. 5 and 7, and have meets on the schedule three times this week- Jan. 10, 12, and 14. Coach Zach Beekman’s Rams are led by seniors Kale Petersen (132) and McKinley Robbins (138) and both are undefeated and top ranked in Class 2A.
Petersen stopped Underwood senior Gable Porter’s winning streak at 64 matches with a thrilling 7-6 victory in the finals at Atlantic’s Rollin Dyer Invitational on Saturday. The loss was just the second in 109 high school matches for the Eagle and Petersen increased his high school winning streak to 55 straight matches. Both wrestlers are two-time State Champions and ranked number one; Petersen in 2A and Porter in 1A.
Robbins improved his career record to 142-6 with four wins on Saturday including one over a previously unbeaten 3A wrestler from Bondurant-Farrar, and another against the second ranked individual in 1A from Underwood.
The Rams go to Perry on Tuesday, Jewell on Thursday, and back to Perry on Saturday for the Blue Jays’ tournament.
