United States Senator Chuck Grassley was recently sworn in for his eighth term and also became the Dean of the Senator which refers to longest serving member.
The Republican from New Hartford has been serving as a US Senator from Iowa since 1980. Senator Grassley says that getting sworn into office for the eighth time doesn’t feel any different than the seventh or sixth time. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio holding office for another six years offers the opportunity to continue to improve the federal government and society along with the lives of Iowans.
“You know, the Constitution says in the preamble, ‘in order to have a more perfect union.’ I think it doesn’t say we have a perfect union. We ought to be working towards a more perfect union. And I see my role as trying to carry out that mandate, which isn’t legal, but it’s not a part of the constitutional responsibilities, but it’s a goal of the Constitution to carry that out.”
Senator Chuck Grassley was sworn into office by Vice President Kamala Harris on January 3 with his wife, Barbara Grassley, at his side.
