Former Goodwin and Son building will be converted to Elliot Art Studio

This year will see two new businesses located in downtown Jefferson.

Jefferson Matters: A Main Street and Chamber Community Executive Director Matt Wetrich says Legacy Events, located directly east of the Welcome Center, in the former Stitch building, is on track to open later this spring. Legacy Events is an event rental, supplies and event management company owned by Abby and Alex McConnell.

Wetrich says another new business will be located directly south of the Welcome Center, in the former Goodwin and Son Paint building, which was purchased by well-known musician Chad Elliott. Wetrich points out the building will be renovated into a paint and pottery studio, along with available art gallery space and will feature live music.

Legacy Events coming in spring

“Really a good ‘get’ for Jefferson and Greene County. We know that experiencejeffersoniowa.com webpage was pivotal in helping them decide they want to move to Jefferson. I’ve talked to him and they said, ‘We’re just really excited all that’s happening here in Jefferson and Greene County. The welcome feeling, the overall happiness we experience when we’re here, we want to bring our family here and raise our kids.”

Wetrich adds that The Elliot Art Studio was also awarded a new business grant through the Jefferson Wants You Campaign Initiative for $5,000. The Elliot Art Studio is expected to open later this year.
