There will be a special election for a vacant seat in a Greene County town.
The Grand Junction City Council chose to appoint Dennis Jacobs to fill a vacancy that was left by Mark Renslow when he resigned in November. Following the appointment, Grand Junction citizens filed a petition to have a special election instead. The Council approved to accept the petition at their most recent meeting this past Monday.
Greene County Deputy Auditor Billie Hoskins tells Raccoon Valley Radio the petition needed at least 32 signatures in order to have a special election for the vacant seat. She says the election will be held on February 14th and there will be one polling location at St. Brigid’s Catholic Church from 7am-8pm. Those wanting to be on the ballot must submit their nomination papers by January 20th at 5pm to the Greene County Auditor’s Office. Nomination forms can be picked up at either city hall or the auditor’s office. Nominations must have at least ten signatures to be on the ballot, but Hoskins suggests that potential candidates get more.
Because the city council seat will be filled by a special election, whoever is elected will serve the rest of the term until 2025.
