Greene County’s high school wrestling season is just over halfway done and the Rams are in the middle of their busiest stretch of the 2022-23 campaign. Coach Zach Beekman’s team was in action Thursday night in Jewell vs. Heart of Iowa Activities Conference opponents South Hamilton and PCM (Monroe). The Rams were in the second and third duals on the night, meeting PCM first and losing by a 42-35 score, then ending the evening with the host Hawks, which resulted in a 54-24 victory. The Rams began the dual meet season with losses in six of their first seven matches, but now stand at 10-8 overall and 4-1 in the conference.

Going 2-0 on the night for the Rams were Gavin Winters (106) with two forfeits, Jacob Harmeyer (113) with a fall and a win by forfeit, Kale Petersen (132) two falls, McKinley Robbins (138) one technical fall and one fall, Brent Dennhardt (145) two falls, Gavin Scheuermann (160) two falls. Jackson Turner (152) and Bork Ersness (195) both were 1-1 on the night.

Petersen is closing in on 100 career victories with 98 and he is 59-0 since transferring to Greene County last season. Robbins is near Jefferson-based program records for most career wins and most falls in a career. He is one away from the career victories record of 147 with 146 through Thursday, and is two away from program record for falls in a career of 85 with 83 through Thursday.

The Rams wrestle tomorrow at the Perry Invitational stating at 9:30 a.m. The final home action for the Rams is set for Tuesday, Jan. 17 in Jefferson at Greene County High School vs. West Marshall (State Center) and Roland-Story (Story City).
