Last week the Iowa High School Athletic Association brought an amendment to their Articles of Incorporation to the Iowa State Board of Education.
The Board approved the amendment, and the new Articles of Incorporation will be implemented starting next football season. The amendment takes free and reduced lunch numbers into account when setting classifications for football. Adair-Casey / Guthrie Center Superintendent Josh Rasmussen tells Raccoon Valley Radio how that may affect AC/GC football.
“We’re kind of right on the line there when it comes to (Class) 1A, (and) Class A. Take a look at our class sizes. So yes, it could impact us if we take off for just a little over 30 percent free and reduced lunch right now in our population. So, we’re just going to kind of be right at the bottom of Class 1A or be a Class A school looking at next year’s schedule. So we’ll find that out later this spring.”
The free and reduced lunch factor takes 40 percent of those numbers and subtracts them from a school district’s Basic Educational Data Survey numbers.
