The next Ag Coffee with Greene County Extension is happening later this week.

On Friday, the public is invited to hear from ISU Extension Farm Management Specialist Alexis Stevens talk about the upcoming US Farm Bill. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio the main focus will be about crop insurance. Stevens reminds farmers to make a decision to either sign up for the Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) or the Price Loss Coverage (PLC). Additionally, Stevens points out Friday’s discussion will also include other types of crop insurance, not just for corn and soybeans.

“There has been some changes to crop insurance where they’ve opened it up for small farms (and) speciality crops. So things like strawberries or apples, if you had a small market farm (or) organic, those types of crop insurance are starting to open up. So we’ll discuss the availability of that.”

The February Ag Coffee takes place Friday from 9:30-11am at the Extension Office in Jefferson and Peoples Bank is the sponsor.
