Tonight marks the end of the high school wrestling regular season for the Greene County Rams. Coach Zach Beekman’s team will be at home in the high school gym in Jefferson with Urbandale and ACGC starting at 6 o’clock. The Rams are 11-9 in dual meets, so one victory this evening clinches a winning season. The Class 1A Chargers are 15-9 and the 3A J-Hawks are 5-9.

It’s one last chance to watch the Rams at home before they go to Webster City on Feb. 11 for a Class 2A District Tournament to determine qualifiers for the State Tournament in Des Moines Feb. 15-18.

The triangular is also an opportunity to watch two of the best to ever wear a singlet for the Rams in seniors Kale Petersen and McKinley Robbins in their final high school dual meets. Robbins has never lost a dual meet in his dazzling career, which includes a 156-7 record and appearances in State Tournament finals all three previous years of high school. He had an unbeaten sophomore season, capped by a 120 lbs. State title, and was second at State as a freshman and junior. The only loss this season in 41 matches was by medical forfeit. Robbins is top ranked in 2A at 138 lbs. and is an Oregon State recruit.

Petersen is 34-0 this season and 47-0 for Greene County after transferring here from 1A West Fork (Sheffield) as a junior. He’s won his last 66 career matches and has a 103-9 career record. He’s a two-time State Champion, and three time state place winner with sixth and first place finishes at West Fork, and a title for the Rams last year. Petersen is a U. of Iowa recruit.
