February is National Heart Month and the Greene County Medical Center is partnering with a business to provide a free way to make sure everyone has a healthy heart.
Medical center staff will be at the Jefferson Hy-Vee on February 15th from noon-2pm for a blood pressure clinic. In addition to a free blood pressure check, the medical center staff will also answer questions about how to have a healthy heart and resources to make that happen.
According to the medical center, heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. Every 34 seconds, one person dies from cardiovascular disease and it is estimated that within Greene County, about 31-percent of all deaths are related to heart disease. The medical center also encourages everyone to follow the recommendations from the American Heart Association for improving heart health with better nutrition, more activity, no smoking or tobacco use, healthy sleep habits, controlling cholesterol, managing weight, as well as lowering levels of blood sugar and blood pressure.
No appointments are needed for the free blood pressure clinic at Hy-Vee in Jefferson.
