West Marshall, the third ranked team in Class 3A, was a winner on Saturday night over Greene County in the opening round of Region 4 girls’ basketball. The final was 69-24 as the Trojans improved to 21-1 and the Rams end their season at 1-21. The Rams started well and trailed just 14-9 after one quarter and 31-15 at halftime. The Trojans expanded the lead until the margin reached the 35 point running clock rule late in the game. Saturday’s contest was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
University of Northern Iowa recruit Katy Ryerson scored 22 points to lead WM while Emma Hoyle had seven points and six rebounds to lead the Rams. Alexa Peters had six rebounds and four points. The game was the last in basketball for the Rams for Hoyle, Peters, Kamryn Sanders, and Ashlynn Hinners.
Greene County head coach Tori Ogden spoke with Raccoon Valley Radio following the contest, and emphasized what a good group of girls this is, and that she was proud of the improvement they made on the basketball floor.
