Greene County qualified four wrestlers for the Feb. 15-18 State Tournament in Des Moines at Wells Fargo Arena. The Rams finished in fifth place as a team at Webster City’s Class 2A eight team district with a nine person team. Rams earning trips to State were District champions in seniors Kale Petersen (38-0) at 132 lbs. and McKinley Robbons (44-1) at 138.  Second place finishers for Greene County were sophomore Brent Dennhardt (36-5) at 145 lbs. and junior Gavin Scheuermann (19-3) at 160. Sophomore Gavin Winters finished in third place at 113 lbs. and finished the season 41-10. Sophomores Jacob Harmeyer (120), Crew Conner (126), Marcus Ball (220), and junior Jackson Turner (152) were not among the top four place winners in their weight classes.

Robbins qualified for his fourth State Tournament and becomes just the second in program history to do so. Petersen is also a four time qualifier, two at West Fork (Sheffield) and two for Greene County. Scheuermann is a three time qualifier while Dennhardt will make his first appearance after not wrestling last season due to concussion issues.

Head coach Zach Beekman has had two or more qualifiers for State tournaments all five seasons he’s guided the program. This is the first time all the qualifiers are ranked in the top 10 in their weight classes. Petersen and Robbins are both ranked number one with Scheuermann ranked fifth and Dennhardt ninth.

All three Raccoon Valley Radio stations will have complete play-by-play Wednesday through Saturday of area wrestlers’ matches from Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Action starts at 9 a.m. Feb. 15 with Class 1A, with 2A in the afternoon and 3A at night.
