The West Central Valley girls basketball team was in action Saturday night, as they traveled to Woodward to face off against the Woodward-Granger Hawks. The game started off slow, with the Wildcats trailing 7-9 at the end of the first, but after outscoring the Hawks 16-8 in the second quarter, the team went into halftime up 23-17. The girls scored another 26 points in the second half to come away with the 49-37 victory. The Wildcats will return to action Tuesday night as they travel to face off with a familiar foe, and take on the Panorama Panthers for second round action in the Class 2A Region 7 playoffs bracket.
West Central Valley also competed in their district wrestling tournament, and had four athletes advance to the state meet, with two of them being district champions. Wildcats 152 pounder Blaise Beane and 220 pounder Ayden Phippen both took first place in their weight classes, while 170 pounder Kaedon Lindsay and 195 pounder Zach Teague both placed second in their weight classes. The four wrestlers will be making their way to Wells Fargo Arena to compete at the state tournament, which will be taking place from the 15th to the 18th.
