
This past weekend was the Iowa High School Athletic Association District Wrestling Tournament and several Guthrie County students qualified for state.
The tournament was hosted by Adair-Casey / Guthrie Center, and saw six individuals from area schools advance to the state tournament. West Central Valley was able to advance four of their student-athletes, with two taking district titles. Blaise Beane was the District Champion in the 152-pound weight class and Ayden Phippen took the title for the 220-pound weight class, while Kaedon Lindsay and Zach Teague each placed second in the 170-pound and 195-pound classes, respectively.
AC/GC had two wrestlers advance to the state tournament, with both taking the district title in their respective weight classes. Tegan Slaybaugh took first place in the 120-pound weight class, while Payton Jacobe won first place for heavyweight.
These six wrestlers will be competing in the state tournament at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines later this week. The tournament is Wednesday through Saturday and Raccoon Valley Radio will be broadcasting live for the area athletes for all three stations.
