With the current winter storm moving through the area, Stuart Police are recommending residents travel as little as possible.

Stuart Police Sergeant Katie Guisinger says that there have been several accidents in town, and on Interstate 80. The amount of snow on the ground can make traction difficult, and the blowing wind snow can make it difficult to see clearly. She adds that dispatch hasn’t told the department that Guthrie County is in a tow ban yet, but that she thinks they will before the end of the day.

Sergeant Guisinger says that the department recommends traveling only when necessary, but if you are on the roads, there are a few tips to help stay safe. She says plan for some extra time for travel, allow space between your vehicle and the one in front of you so you can stop without having an accident, drive at a slower speed and give yourself time to stop.
