Dallas Center-Grimes girls basketball team qualifies for the state tournament on Tuesday.

In the Class 4 Region 1 Championship game they defeated the Humboldt by a score of 65 to 36. The Mustangs controlled this game from start to finish and it began with Vanessa Bickford and Josie Lampe hitting three pointers and then Emma Miner getting a three point play and a 9 to 2 run in the first five minutes of the game would set the tone.  Dallas Center-Grimes would shut down Humboldt’s top guards Morgan Mann and Ava Fischer in the first half and hold those two to just four points. The half-time lead for DCG was 32 to 18. In the second half the Mustangs did not let off the gas putting up 33 points and holding the Wildcats to 18. Emma Minor would finish as the top scorer with 18 points and Vanessa Bickford added 12 points and the bench collected 16 points. This is the third year in a row that the DCG girls basketball team is headed to the state tournament.

They will have to await the bracket to be announced but they will play on February 28th. Raccoon Valley Radio will have live play by play coverage of every DCG game at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
