The Dallas County Public Health continues to emphasize people staying home and isolated when they feel under the weather.

Health Navigation Coordinator Ann Cochran says that flu season usually peaks in the month of February so when a person feels sick they need to stay away from public places. Cochran explains coughing, fever, vomiting, running nose and diarrhea are all symptoms for a student to stay home and for adults to take off work. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that germs travel fast when a person is sick in a public place.

“Especially for children, Keep them home as long as they have a fever. If a child is coughing a lot. Wait until that cough subsides because it’s really hard to sit in a classroom and concentrate on learning when you’re feeling like you’re coughing all the time. And same thing with a real runny nose. Those are things that can be controlled at home a lot easier with rest and lots of fluids.”

Cochran also says that a person can exert a lot of energy being sick at work or in a school setting which can often prolong someone’s ability to get well.
